Learning Objective 7
Through our conversations in this class, I was pushed to use my critical thinking and not automatically accept technology as something good. It is easy to fall into the trap of thinking that technology is always better than what it replaces, but that is not always true.
With my background in the business world, more particularly in finance, I can see how digital tools are useful and even essential in areas such as forecasting, dashboards, and decision-making. AI can speed up the decision process, but I also see that numbers and technology can create a false sense of accuracy and safety. If the input is wrong or if the assumptions are wrong, the output will also be wrong. This can distort the results or provide an incomplete picture, which can make the final decision misleading.
This is why I think we should always be critical of the output, especially when it comes from large LLMs that are not trained for our specific task. We always need to go back to the source of each decision made by technology and AI and ask ourselves if it actually makes sense.
